Where we begin

Imagine a veteran who bears wounds that cannot be seen and though he has long since returned home from distant sands or shores, a battle still rages within. On this night, vivid flashbacks transport him back and just as the feelings begin to overtake him he is suddenly awakened, drenched in cold sweat and gripped with fear.

Yet on this night, he refuses to surrender to the darkness. He finds strength from his family and friends, he finds solace from his fellow veterans and he remembers he is home and his home is here.

"Do what you can, with what you've got, where you are."

Scottsdale for Veterans is more than just a nonprofit working to provide support, opportunity and enrichment. We are a community standing beside our veterans to give them the chance for a better future - one not of fear and uncertainty but one of hope and happiness.

Our purpose and promise

To fulfill our promise to care for veterans in our community through support, opportunity and enrichment. Together with our partners, providers, volunteers and community members, we will deliver a broad set of programs to veterans:

    • to lift them up when they falter,
    • to strengthen them when they fear,
    • to celebrate them when they succeed,
    • to honor them for their service.

Our story begins here

"With malice toward none, with charity for all… to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan…"

Taken from the second inaugural address from President Lincoln just months before the end of the Civil War and weeks before his assassination, as our nation began its work to further forge that more perfect union, a promise was made to care for those who served our nation.
It is in these words and promise that our story begins - Scottsdale, a city founded by a veteran of that Civil War who retired here to seek fortune, a return to health and a promise of a better tomorrow.

Our Leadership & Board

Together with our President, our volunteer board of directors share a passion for community service and a strong commitment to support veterans. They are a dedicated group of individuals who share a common goal - to make a difference in the lives of veterans. We are grateful for their experience, support and commitment to our work.
